It’s been so long since we’ve had meat, I know this will put a smile on my children and grandchildren’s faces. This meat pack will go a long way with so many mouths to feed, and it is enough to feed us for a few days. It will help to enjoy our Eid, as we cannot afford to buy Qurbani. “This meat pack is a blessing for me and my family. Islamic Relief was able to provide Salimata and her family with the gift of meat for Eid so that they may enjoy this blessed holiday. Meat is so precious in our community, we consider it “the red gold.” If these high prices continue, it will be a disaster. All our money is spent on food and we can only afford to buy millet and sorghum. Eating meat is a rare occasion in my family. “Because of the conflict in the north, the price of animals is increasing in the market. Her four eldest sons also work to support the family, but even that is not enough.

Salimata, a widow and mother of eight from Mali, is one of many people that your donations reached during Qurbani last year. So, through Qurbani+, not only does the best quality Qurbani meat reach the most vulnerable people on Eid, but you also help widows and orphaned families break the cycle of poverty! For the 2022 season, donors were able to fulfill Qurbani for Mali, Niger, or Sudan this year AND support these livelihood efforts for next year’s Eid al-Adha: It’s a win-win! All the fattened animals are then made part of the Qurbani distribution for Eid al-Adha to provide the best quality meat for vulnerable people. The family is provided with enough money for their household needs and other costs, and Islamic Relief is able to reinvest our share into other income-generating activities so even more people can benefit. This profit is shared between Islamic Relief and the families at a predefined and agreed upon ratio. As the time of Qurbani nears, the fattened animals are sold at market prices to our Qurbani Program, which generates a profit. Here’s how it works: The head of an orphaned family, usually a mother or grandparent, receives three animals from Islamic Relief up to six months before the Qurbani season. Qurbani+ (Plus) is an initiative that seeks to increase the income of families by partnering with them in an Islamic microfinance livelihood project connected to Eid al-Adha. In the event your donation arrives late or is delayed due to other, unforeseen circumstances, or if the commitment of Qurbani in the country you selected has already been fulfilled, Islamic Relief reserves the right to allocate your donation to a different country in need. In addition, IRUSA’s Qurbani program is seasonal, and only available now through Eid al-Adha–as such monthly giving options are not available. Please note: Global Qurbani/Udhiyah funds as well as those for certain countries may be used to provide for refugee families. *Poundage and number of families served are calculations based on approximations, and may vary during specific distributions. Here are the types of animals that were provided during the 2022 season.ġ donation = 1 sheep or goat or 1/7 of an ox If you would like to purchase an entire cow or bull, you would multiply the price and the number of families served by 7. Your donation can provide about 50 pounds (sheep/goat) to 70 pounds (cow/bull/buffalo/ox) of fresh meat, which in turn feeds about 5 to 10 families*.
